Portuguese sculpture from the late Middle Ages and the early modern period provides an ideal vantage point from which to understand the mechanics and chronology of the cultural transfers that shaped the European artistic landscape. Adopting a transnational rather than a Mediterranean-centric perspective, this meeting aims to reinterpret these narratives by acknowledging the pivotal role played by numerous foreign and northern figures in Portugal and Madeira.
