In the years when Reformation ideas were in circulation in many German regions, workshops in Flanders and Brabant supplied monumental retables for (still) Catholic churches. One of these well-preserved works has stood in the Nicolai Church in Bielefeld since its creation around 1524 and has recently been restored. The public symposium will discuss its significance at the time of its creation and after the introduction of the Reformation, as well as its cultural potential for the present.
